Beşiktaş put on an attacking display at Vodafone Park in Istanbul, securing a resounding 6–2 victory over Çorum FK on matchday three of the Süper Lig. The star of the night was Dusan Vlahovic, who opened his scoring account for the Istanbul side with a hat-trick, sealing the Black Eagles’ second win of the season.
A blistering start for Besiktas
The home side wasted no time in taking control of the match. Vaclav Cerny opened the scoring in the 9th minute, slotting the ball into an empty net from close range, giving Beşiktaş an early lead that reflected their dominance for much of the first half.
Çorum FK tried to contain their opponents’ attacks, but in the closing stages of the first half they were dealt another blow. Dusan Vlahovic converted a penalty in the 43rd minute – awarded by the VAR following a handball in the box – easily beating the goalkeeper to make it 2–0: in doing so, he also scored his first goal in a Beşiktaş shirt as a starter, having spent much of the previous matches on the bench.
Vlahovic seals the match with a hat-trick
Çorum FK came back from the break with greater determination, and in the 52nd minute a superb left-footed strike from Mohammed Diomande from outside the box momentarily restored hope for the Anatolian side. However, the visitors’ reaction was short-lived, and Dusan Vlahovic re-emerged in the 59th minute, scoring an absolutely incredible goal with a backheel to extend the lead.
Barely seven minutes later, the Serbian striker spotted another opportunity when the ball fell loose in the box; Vlahovic broke free and ran onto it, slotting it into the net despite a diving save from Brazilian goalkeeper Marcos Felipe. Three goals in just 23 minutes: a memorable performance for a player who is sure to become a regular feature of manager Vincenzo Italiano’s attacking approach.
An epic night for Besiktas
Far from being content with the 4–1 lead, Beşiktaş continued to press forward. İlhan Fakılı, who had come on as a substitute in the second half, scored the fifth goal in the 73rd minute with an unstoppable shot across goal.
Çorum FK, however, did not give up and pulled one back again just four minutes later, when Ermin Mahmic headed home from a cross by Cengiz Ünder, a former Beşiktaş player – he spent last season on loan – who chose not to celebrate the goal.
But the home side’s response was not long in coming. Amir Murillo scored Beşiktaş’s sixth and final goal in the 83rd minute, with a shot that went in after rebounding off the crossbar, rounding off an epic night for the Istanbul side.
A disallowed goal in the closing minutes
The Black-and-Whites were in full flow and the scoreline could have been even more lopsided. Ernest Poku, making his debut for Beşiktaş, scored the seventh goal just three minutes later, but the goal – initially awarded by the referee – was ruled out for offside following a review by the VAR team.
This convincing 6–2 victory marks the first time Beşiktaş have scored six goals in a league match since the 2020–2021 season. Specifically, it was on 6 January 2021 when, on matchday 16 of the 2020–2021 Turkish league season, they defeated Çaykur Rizespor 6–0. Vincenzo Italiano’s side are now third, level on 6 points with Fenerbahçe, who are fourth after winning in Samsun; meanwhile, the team from Çorum have just 1 point from 3 matches and have dropped to third-last place in the table.
