At least six passengers were injured when a bus crashed into a tree in the Bahçelievler district of western Istanbul, an accident that was caught on security cameras.
Turkish news agency İHA reported that the incident occurred on Çalışlar Street, when for reasons still under investigation the driver of the bus of İETT – the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s urban transport company – lost control of the vehicle and suddenly rammed the right side of the bus into a tree.
As a result of the impact, a total of 7 people including the bus driver himself were injured, although none of them seriously. As emergency services arrived on the scene, the police cordoned off the scene of the accident while the injured, many of them in shock, were taken to local hospitals.
A witness to the accident said that everything happened suddenly and in a matter of seconds: ‘It happened right in front of the school, thank God the children had already gone inside. I heard the sound of the crash and we ran there. There were injured people inside the bus and we pulled them out,’ he said. The bus driver, who was slightly injured, was taken to the police station to make a statement after being treated for his injuries. The moment of the accident, which destroyed the front right side of the bus, was recorded by security cameras.
