Two people were injured on Monday in Turkey when a plane crashed during an emergency landing manoeuvre in the northwestern province of Çanakkale, apparently due to an engine failure caused by technical problems.
According to Turkish media reports, the small plane, operated by a private company for training flights, had taken off from Balıkesir’s Koca Seyit airport and suffered problems in mid-flight, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing in the rural area of Camikebir, just outside the Turkish town of Ezine.
Despite the hard landing, both occupants of the aircraft – identified as instructor Faruk Türmen and student Burak Genç – survived the impact, albeit with minor injuries. Several emergency crews, including fire, medical and gendarmerie personnel, were immediately on the scene. The governor of Çanakkale, Ömer Toraman, confirmed that the plane was carrying only two occupants and that the aircraft was not seriously damaged.
This plane crash comes after a military training plane crashed last June in the province of Kayseri, in central Turkey, killing both pilots, who at the last moment manoeuvred to avoid crashing into some agricultural fields where several people were working.
