The long-awaited derby at Istanbul’s Vodafone Park between Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe ended in a tie that hurts both teams.
Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe culminated with a goalless draw the derby played on Sunday at the Vodafone Park stadium in Istanbul, during the 8th round of the Turkish football league.
In a very close game, Ecuadorian Enner Valencia had a couple of scoring chances for Fenerbahçe during the first half of the match. After a goalless first half, again neither team managed to change the score either in the next 45 minutes.
With only 2 minutes remaining for regulation time, and with Beşiktaş pressing the rival goal, a center into the area by Algerian Rachid Ghezzal that headed Wout Weghorst crashed into the post, in one of the clearest scoring chances of all the match.
Following a goalless derby, Beşiktaş – who has not won a game since a victory in Ankara in early September – is 6th in the table with 15 points, one more than Fenerbahçe, who is 7th in the standings led by Medipol Başakşehir, who won in Ankara on Saturday. Galatasaray, 4th in the Süper Lig and tied on points with Başakşehir, also finished goalless the match played in Adana on Saturday.
