Hotel occupancy rates in Antalya, the main destination for sun and beach tourism on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey, have reached almost 90% by the end of the year, according to hotel industry representatives in the region. The fact that this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations fall on a Monday gives tourists the opportunity to enjoy a 3-day holiday long weekend. In particular, the demand for bookings from Europe and Russia is particularly high, in contrast to an apparently stagnant domestic market.
Hakan Saatçioğlu, President of the Professional Association of Hotel Managers, points out the good figures for the recovery of tourism after the pandemic: “There are many requests for bookings, especially from Russia and the Balkans. Last year we also had a lot of bookings, we had a very high demand from the UK and Europeans.”
İsmail Çağlar, general manager of a 5-star hotel in Antalya, stressed that this year the region has welcomed around 15.5 million tourists. “A large number of our booking requests come from Germany and Russia. There are hardly any places left to book in Antalya… We will spend New Year’s Eve and New Year with amazing menus and entertainment programmes. There will be concerts by famous artists,” he said.
