Turkey has evacuated another 200 Palestinian patients from Gaza in the last few hours so that they can receive treatment in Turkish hospitals, according to the Eurasian country’s health minister, Fahrettin Koca, who said that a total of four planes from Egypt, chartered specifically to bring the patients and their companions, had landed in Ankara.
On arrival at the airport, dozens of ambulances waiting for the planes transferred the patients to various hospitals in the Turkish capital. On their outbound journey, the planes also carried humanitarian aid consisting of medicines and medical supplies for Gaza.
The Turkish health minister also reported that, tragically, two of the Palestinian patients evacuated to Turkey who arrived on earlier flights in the previous weeks – many of them with cancer – later died in hospital, while two of the six patients currently in intensive care are in serious condition. Koca also confirmed that a field hospital to be built by Turkey near the Rafah crossing has already been given the go-ahead by Egypt and Israel.
