Hagia Sophia during Ramadan

Turkey prepares to welcome 2022 Ramadan

Turkey’s mosques, including Istanbul’s historic Hagia Sophia, are already gearing up to welcome this year’s Ramadan, which begins tomorrow, April 2, with the first “sahur” (lunch before sunrise). Hagia Sophia already shows the typical decoration lights that are placed on this Muslim holiday, with the profession of the Islamic faith “La İlahe İllallah” (There is no god but God) illuminated at night. The Ramadan fast will end this year on Sunday, May 1.
