The Kırkpınar oil wrestling festival, which has been held annually since the 14th century in Edirne, began yesterday its 661st edition with a historic record of participation by bringing together nearly 3,000 competitors, after two years of pandemic in which it even had to be suspended. In addition to being the oldest uninterrupted competition in the world, this festival is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
