Turkey, lake Salda and Mars

This lake in Turkey could hold the secrets of life on Mars

The geochemical similarities between Lake Salda, a lake formed in an ancient crater in the Turkish province of Burdur and called the “Maldives of Turkey”, and the Jezero crater on the planet Mars, have drawn the attention of NASA, which plans send a mission to the red planet in February 2021 to search for ancient signs of life on the Jezero, believed to have formed a lake millions of years ago. NASA scientists will study whether minerals found in the Martian crater are similar to sediments formed by algae found in the crater of Lake Salda.
