The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has announced that a total of 4 museums in the city will be free to visit until early 2024, as part of the celebrations for the first centenary of the founding of the Turkish Republic. The measure, which came into effect on 2 October, will run for 100 days until early next year and will allow free entry to these museums from opening until 11:00 am.
The four Istanbul museums included, according to Turkish media reports, are the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı), the Theodosius Cistern (Şerefiye Sarnıcı), the Miniatürk theme park, and the Panorama 1453 Historical Museum, located next to the Byzantine walls and dedicated to the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople. According to Turkish press reports, however, only visitors with Turkish nationality will be able to enter for free.
