Turkey is experiencing moments of big pain and sorrow after the explosion that occurred last night in a coal mine in Amasra, in the province of Bartın, which has so far killed 41 miners, although at least a dozen more are still trapped, so that the death toll could rise; in addition, many of those rescued alive suffer serious injuries. The explosion, caused by a leak of firedamp gas, occurred at a depth of 300 meters at a time when 110 miners were working inside the mine. “I cannot describe the horrific images we have seen, it is very sad. They all were my friends… they all had dreams,” said one of the many miners who helped in the rescue efforts, crying. Turkey still remembers with pain the Soma mining disaster, which in 2014 caused the death of 301 miners.
