Lake Tuz, the second largest lake in Turkey and one of the largest saline lakes in the world, turns pink in this time, acquiring an almost otherworldly but very beautiful appearance. This colour is due to the proliferation of halobacteria and Dunaliella salina, a type of microscopic algae that produces a pink pigment to protect itself from the sun and heat, and which reproduces when rains decrease and the salinity of the lake increases.
