Starting today it is mandatory to wear a mask to go outside in Istanbul, Ankara and Bursa. The use of a mask in public spaces is already compulsory in 48 of the 81 provinces of Turkey.
Istanbul, Ankara and Bursa have joined the growing list of cities and provinces in Turkey that have made the use of face masks compulsory in the street and in all public spaces, including means of transportation, given the upturn in cases of coronavirus that is registered in the last days.
The governor’s offices in the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara and Bursa announced on June 17 through their respective communiqués the obligation to wear a face mask in all public spaces. With the incorporation of these three cities, the most populous in the country along with İzmir (where it was already forced since the end of May), the use of a face mask on the street is already mandatory in 48 of the 81 provinces of Turkey.
The coronavirus pandemic, which has already infected more than 8 million people worldwide and caused some 550,000 deaths, has caused 1,467 new infections in Turkey in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data provided by the Turkish Minister of Health. In total, almost 183,000 infections have accumulated in the country, of which some 154,000 have recovered and 4,861 have died.
