Galatasaray struggled to beat lowly Gaziantep FK on their visit to Istanbul, earning another win over the south-eastern Turkish club – in the relegation positions – and maintaining its battle with Fenerbahçe for the league lead, with both Istanbul clubs levelled on 60 points in the standings.
A second-half goal from Wilfried Zaha (72nd minute) was enough to overturn a first-half goal from Arda Kızıldağ that put Gaziantep ahead on the score. Despite clearly dominating the play and goal-scoring chances, the Lions struggled as the minutes passed by, fearing a draw that would once again distance them from Fenerbahçe. However, in the final moments Barış Alper Yılmaz finally brought the long-awaited goal, thanks to a powerful left-footed shot that the goalkeeper could not stop, making the 2-1 with a minute to go for the final whistle. Another Galatasaray goal was disallowed for offside in stoppage time, but the much-needed victory for Okan Buruk’s team was already assured.
