The famous Turkish singer Gülşen, who recently sparked a controversy in Turkey by describing religious school students as “perverts”, was released yesterday from the prison where she had been remanded for a hate crime, after her lawyer appeal the decision; however, for now she will remain under house arrest awaiting trial. Gülşen was arrested on August 25 at her home in Istanbul for comments she made in a controversial video during a concert, which went viral. The singer alleges that her words were misinterpreted and misrepresented, and she has apologized.
