Applause and songs from balconies: how Turks celebrated their national holiday

Thousands of Turks celebrated their National Sovereignty Day across the country on April 23th and the 100th anniversary of the founding of Turkey’s parliament, amid quarantine measures and the curfew because of the coronavirus pandemic. At 9 p.m., people across the country came out onto the balconies of their homes, waving Turkish flags and singing the national anthem.
