Seven people were injured during a hotel fire in the city of Bursa, in northwestern Turkey, where firefighters from the city’s Metropolitan Municipality had to intervene to extinguish a blaze that broke out in a hotel establishment housing dozens of guests.
The injured, according to local media, were treated by medical teams and transferred to the public hospitals of Çekirge and Bursa as well as to the University Hospital of Uludağ, where it was confirmed that all of them are in good health and are progressing favourably after suffering smoke inhalation poisoning.
The incident took place in a 48-bed hotel located in the Görükle neighbourhood in the Nilüfer district, in the west of Bursa city. At the time of the fire there were 35 guests in the building, who were safely evacuated thanks to the quick and coordinated action of the emergency services.
Ladder trucks and special equipment were used to access the upper floors of the hotel, as several people were trapped in the upper floors of the building. Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated in the spa, located in the basement of the building. The dense smoke generated by the flames, which spread to the upper floors, forced firefighting and rescue teams to carry out simultaneous extinguishing and rescue work.
The investigation is still open, although initial inspections indicate that the hotel complied with regulations and had the mandatory fire safety checks. According to the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, the operation involved 19 vehicles and 50 firefighters who evacuated the 35 people in the building successfully and on time.
