The province of Van, located in eastern Turkey, suffered an earthquake on Thursday that reached 5.4 on the Richter scale with an epicentre in the municipality of Özalp, which did not cause injuries but caused material damage to several buildings and houses. Four months ago, another 5.9 earthquake in the same province caused 9 deaths. In October 2011, Van suffered an earthquake of 7.2 degrees that caused more than 600 deaths.
