Ayşe Karatay, a 116-year-old woman living in the Turkish province of Afyonkarahisar, has managed to defeat the coronavirus and has been transferred to a normal ward after spending 3 weeks in the ICU of the Eskişehir City Hospital, western Turkey, becoming one of the oldest people in the world to survive the virus. “Her health is very good and she is recovering,” said her son, explaining that her mother had only received one dose of the vaccine when she was infected by a relative. According to data from the Turkish Ministry of Health, about 90% of patients hospitalised or dying from COVID-19 in the country are people who have rejected the vaccine or who have not received both doses.
