1 in 3 adult Turks suffers from obesity, which makes Turkey the country with the highest rate of obesity in Europe, warn experts, who recall that excess fat in the body reduces the quality of life and is the origin of many chronic metabolic diseases, as well as a risk factor for cancer. In Turkey, obesity is more prevalent among women and among lower and middle class people; a poor diet with excess of calories intake, lack of physical activity, stress, genetic predisposition, poor quality of sleep, and certain diseases and medications are factors that can cause obesity.
