Officials of the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) have expressed their concern about the low levels of blood stocks in Turkey, which are below the minimum levels after the devastating earthquake that shook the southeast of the country on February 6 causing 50,000 deaths, to which must be added the beginning of Ramadan, which triggers a drop in donations due to daily fasting. Saim Kerman, responsible for blood donations of the organization, has urgently asked citizens to donate blood after saying that there are only 3 days of blood stocks left. “After the massive destruction that occurred in so many provinces, we lost many of our donors. At the same time, our staff who lived in the region also fell victim to the earthquake. In this way, we began to receive extremely low levels of blood during February and March”, he said.
