A family in Turkey experienced an unusual event when they buried their father, 96-year-old cancer patient Recep Çelik, only to discover the next day that he was still alive and that it had all been an administrative error, and that the person buried was someone else. The problem occurred when Recep Yılmaz, another 69-year-old patient with COVID-19 and with a strong physical resemblance, was admitted to the same hospital and was mistakenly registered under the name Recep Çelik; Yılmaz died, but the news of his death came to Çelik’s family; surprised to learn that the death had been due to coronavirus, they asked to see the body but he had the same surgery and birthmarks, and a great physical resemblance… so they celebrated his funeral and buried him. The next day the hospital informed them of the error and that his father was not dead, but was still alive in his room. “As we entered the room we were in shock. We cheered, but we asked ourselves: whom have we buried?“, says his son.
