İsmail Kırdar, a 95-year-old nursing home patient who was admitted on March 25th with high fever and other symptoms of COVID-19 to a hospital in İzmir, on the west coast of Turkey, was dismissed with a big applause by medical staff after beating the virus. “Uncle İsmail has defeated the virus. May this give Turkey hope,” can be heard in the video, while İsmail pretends to dance as a gesture of happiness. Turkey so far registers 34,109 coronavirus infections and 725 deaths, but more and more patients are recovering and 1,582 have already overcome the disease.
