Turkey, coronavirus pandemic controls

Turkey increases controls and restores curfews against coronavirus

Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan announced new measures and controls against the pandemic late Monday, including the reintroduction of weekend curfews and the closure of restaurants and cafes (except for serving food at home) during Ramadan, given the worrying increase in coronavirus cases, which in the last 24 hours exceeded 32,000 daily positives: an increase that experts attribute to the spread of more contagious strains such as the British one, which already accounts for about 80% of all new cases in the country. Less than a month after Turkey relaxed restrictions and reopened restaurants, 58 of the country’s 81 provinces, which represent 80% of the population, are already at the highest risk of contagion.
