One dead after plane crashed during flight in Turkey

A plane from Turkey’s famous 134th Air Force squadron, better known as the Türk Yıldızları (Turkish Stars), crashed today while on a training flight outside Konya, central Turkey, the defence ministry confirmed in a statement, saying the aircraft, an NF-5, went down “for unknown reasons” at 12:51 local time (10:51 CET).

The aircraft had taken off shortly before from Konya’s 3rd Air Base and ended up crashing on the ground after losing control. Although the pilot of the aircraft was able to parachute out in time and is in good condition, the plane hit a construction site on the runway, killing a military personnel in the area. The Turkish Ministry of Defence has announced that it will open an investigation into the incident.
