Turkey celebrated Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on May 19, a date that commemorates the day that, in 1919, Atatürk landed in the city of Samsun to start the Turkish War of Independence. The main ceremony took place at Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s mausoleum, Anıtkabir, where the Minister of Youth and Sports presided over an event attended by thousands of young people from Turkey’s 81 provinces.
