Thousands of Muslim worshippers attended the morning congregational prayer at the dawn in Hagia Sophia on the occasion of the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice, the first prayer of its kind celebrated in 86 years in Hagia Sophia after in the end of July was consecrated again as a mosque. The faithful, who came from all over Turkey, filled the interior of the temple, Sultanahmet Square and the surrounding streets. The Feast of Sacrifice is one of the most important in the Islamic calendar and commemorates the sacrifice that the prophet Abraham made to God.
