Hasankeyf, in Turkey, sumerged underwater

The city of Hasankeyf lives its last days before being sumerged

With a history dating back to 12,000 years ago and having been home to numerous civilizations, the historic city of Hasankeyf, in southeastern Turkey, receives these days the visit of its former inhabitants and many curious people who want to contemplate its last days, before the waters of the Ilısu dam, built on the Tigris river, flood it completely. Although its main monuments have been moved to the new Hasankeyf, built on higher ground, many cannot avoid feeling nostalgic when they see it disappear underwater.
