A video released this week by the Directorate of Communications of Turkey via Twitter addresses Istanbul’s religious and cultural diversity, showing how Christians, Jews, Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians coexist with the Muslim community. The video includes interviews with members of these minorities about their experiences of living together. “There are 3 churches, a Catholic temple, a synagogue and a mosque in the Büyükdere neighbourhood… There is incredible respect,” says Serli Kecoğlu Uslay, a Turkish woman of Armenian origin married to a Muslim. Marriage has educated their daughters in both traditions.
